BVSD Listens – online community engagement tool

The Boulder Valley School District’s new online community engagement site, BVSD Listens, is the latest tool to be employed in a joint Boulder Valley Board of Education and BVSD superintendent community engagement effort that began in 2009.

In 2009, the school board and superintendent launched a new process for engaging with our community. Face-to-face sessions were held in the winter and spring of 2010 discussing and gathering input around the question of what should constitute student success in BVSD. In 2011, community meetings and an online survey asked the BVSD community what characteristics the school board should look for in hiring our district’s new superintendent.

In the fall of 2012, following the example of other local governments within the BVSD area, our district entered into a contract with MindMixer (http://www.mindmixer.com/). While face-to-face community meetings of varying formats will continue to be held as needed, BVSD realized that there was an obvious advantage for our community, the school board and district administration to provide an online community engagement tool. BVSD Listens goes beyond past online survey tools to allow those who sign up to interact with each other, to understand what, if any, clear community trends appear, how deep certain concerns about a question may run, etc.

If you would like to participate in future face-to-face community engagement sessions when they are held, please email communications@bvsd.org. But whether or not you choose to participate in a face-to-face session when offered, BVSD urges you to join the online BVSD Listens. One registration is all you need to respond to any questions or issues that will be posted throughout a school year. Thank you for your interest.
